FAQs - Volunteering

This FAQ will answer many of your questions about volunteering at Sikh Welfare Council.

There are volunteer positions for just about everyone and the requirements vary accordingly.

For example, Flag Day participants or ushers at events need only to fill out our Volunteer Form (ad hoc volunteering). Others, such as those offering tution services, counselling, etc should be suitably qualified. Sikh Welfare Council may require a new Volunteer applicant to attend an orientation session or interview, among other things.

Fill out the Volunteer Application form (refer to Downloads Section) and submit it to our office.

Certain volunteer opportunities are available periodically, such as when we hold an event or activity. Others, such as inmate counselling, may require visits to prisons a few times a month.

While volunteering is rewarding, it does demand a commitment on your part. Please carefully consider your schedule and your ability to commit your time.

From simple tasks at SIWEC-organised events and activities to counselling and mentoring children. The areas are varied and only those suitable for an area will be tasked to help out.

You can refer to the Volunteer Application Form for a list of some of the areas where volunteers serve. The form can be downloaded via the Volunteer menu on this website.

"There is no better exercise for your heart,
Than reaching down and helping to lift someone up."

If you'd like to give something besides money, consider lending your time and talents to SIWEC that are important to you.

Applying to be a SIWEC volunteer is simple, just fill out an application form and we will be in touch.
