New Programmes Initiated by SIWEC
SIWEC is now evolving from being a provider of food and finance to the needy to becoming an enabler, supporter and a motivator through holistic care. New programs are being introduced to supplement the traditional ones, which we are continuing to administer more effectively and productively (support for the needy, handling bereavements, counselling, etc).
The new programs are as follows:
House Visit program (Project Serve):
This has 3 components to its structure and one of the components will provide an opportunity for the sangat to volunteer to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
Education Support:
Education support program aims at ensuring that the children of the needy are linked up with available resources such as SINDA, SIET, CDCs & FSCs. They then receive support such as bursaries, pocket money and tuition.
Student Mentoring program:
This program aims at assisting all students regardless of their financial and social status. Its objective is to build a social support system for students to turn to, where a mentor then "walks” with the student. The mentor embarks on a journey enabling the mentee to cope positively with challenges.
Health Care Ambassador Program:
SIWEC organizes visits by qualified volunteers to patients in hospitals, nursing homes and hospices with the objective of providing social and spiritual support. It also aims at educating them on available resources of assistance from various health agencies.
Program for the physically challenged:
The population is aging and there will be a growing number of elderly who may find it a challenge to visit places of worship of their choice. SIWEC has embarked on this program, in collaboration with all Sikh institutions, to not only ensure that the elderly are not forgotten and deprived, but to also inculcate the spirit of seva and kindness and building community cohesiveness.
Prisons Through Care Program:
The vision of the Sikh Welfare Council Prison Through Care program is to have a viable effective mechanism to process and study the welfare of Sikh offenders and their families. The mission is to provide social, emotional, spiritual support to individuals in incarceration whilst providing social, emotional, financial and food rations support to families of offenders thus enabling self- reliance and self-support.
Volunteer Recruitment/Engagement Program:
It is a program that is aimed at continuously recruiting and engaging volunteers needed for the success and continuity of the above programs, we would appreciate if you could kindly disseminate the above information to your congregation so that we can reach out to all who can benefit and those who wish to participate as volunteers. You may contact the following individuals for further information and participation.
